Are you going on a holiday to Malaga and are you curious what there is to do there?

In this blogpost you will find the activities and events that are there in the month February. But let’s start with a short outline of the weather.

The strong influence of the Mediterranean climate causes the seawater to be around 14 degrees, because of which Malaga has a moderate climate. In the morning it could still be a bit chilly, but in the afternoon the weather is great: the mean temperature is around 16 degrees with some spikes up to even 20 degrees. February has some rainy days, but usually no more than 7.

What you should pack your suitcase with:

-A sweater or vest and a thin scarf for the mornings and nights

-Sunglasses and suncream

-Closed shoes and slippers

In February the almond trees are blooming!

In the province of Malaga the flowers of the almond tree are blooming in February, and it’s definitely worth it to take a look! The sunny days are perfect for a trip through the fields in order to enjoy the great view of these beautiful flowers. The almond trees are part of the great view in the Andalusian landscape: in total there are more than 150 000 hectares full of these trees through whole Andalucia, of which the majority can be found in the region of Axarquia, and around the Sierra Subbetica in Cordoba.

At an half an hour drive from Malaga the villages Colmenar Casabermeja and Villanueva de la Conceptción can be found. When you pass these villages you will find the almond trees between the orange and olive trees, while they also cover the spacious fields in the background. The flowers have different colors, from pink to purple, depending on how much time they have bloomed already. There are more than 400 different types of trees in the province. Therefore, going to see them is a great idea, and you are sure to take some great pictures!

23 February – 3 March: Carnaval de Málaga 2019

This is the most colorful and exciting carnival of Malaga: as well for adults as for kids. The carnival starts with the “Previa”: the activity of tasting all kinds of typical dishes from Málaga, which are held all around the city. The best event to see is the great parade through the historical centre towards the Plaza de la Merced.  This parade is held on Sunday,  the 24thof February, and starts at 17:00. Direction of the parade: Hall of Santo Domingo (Pergola), Puente de Esperanza, Prim, Atarazanas, Martinez, Marques de Larios, Plaza de la constituction, Granada, Plaza del Carbon, Plaza del Siglo, Granada, Méndez Núñez, Uncibay Square, Casapalma, Cárcer, Madre de Dios y Placa de la Merced. At the end, the murgas, comparas and quartets will perform. But be aware that you barely can enter the city by car, as this day is very crowdy. The Christmas lights are also used for this festival, combined with typical carnival decorations. You should really not miss this festival; especially the Calle Larios is a must-see this week! The amazing lights there are turned on from 19:00 until 02:00, don’t miss it!

28 February 2019 Day of Andalusia Día de Andalucía.

This day is dedicated to the cultural identity of Andalusia and is a traditional, especially folkloristic, event. It is the anniversary of the referendum of 28 February 1980. During the Día de Andalucía it is remembered that the region of Andalusia was recognized as an autonomous region by the government of Spain.

As during many holidays, in many villages and towns the balconies are decorated with the flag of Andalusia. Many activities are organized throughout the region. The schools are closed and the shops have adjusted opening hours.
